How selection actually works
- Prelims (100 marks) - screening only.
- Mains (200 marks) - provisional selection is based on your Mains aggregate, state-wise and category-wise.
- Local Language Proficiency Test - only if you did not study the specified language in 10th or 12th. Qualifying only.
- Verification - eligibility and the information you gave in the application are verified. Appointment is subject to medical fitness, Know Your Employee (KYE) formalities, disclosure of any pending criminal cases and possible police verification.

- Your Mains marks decide everything. Every mark in Mains directly affects your rank, and even a fraction of a mark can separate candidates in a crowded state.
- There is no personality or communication assessment before joining, but the job involves customer interaction and selling, so build those skills anyway.
- Be wary of anyone offering "interview guidance" or "selection influence" for SBI Clerk. SBI says it does not endorse any such service, and canvassing leads to disqualification.
