Free quant practice for bank exams, all 22 chapters

In short

Free quant practice for bank exams is available here for all 22 Quantitative Aptitude chapters in the SBI Clerk syllabus, with notes, practice questions and step-by-step solutions. Every chapter except data sufficiency also generates fresh questions with computed answers, so you can keep practising for as long as you need.

What the quant section actually tests

In SBI Clerk Prelims the section is called Numerical Ability: 35 questions in 20 minutes. In Mains it is Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions in 45 minutes. The chapters are the same, but Mains leans more on DI and harder arithmetic.

Quant in clerk exams is mostly about speed with numbers, not advanced maths. The level stays around Class 10 arithmetic. What makes it hard is the clock: roughly 34 seconds a question in Prelims.

The 22 chapters, by priority

PriorityChaptersWhy
HighSimplification, approximation, quadratic equations, data interpretation, percentage, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, speed-distance-timeMost questions, and they feed into other chapters
MediumNumber series, average, simple and compound interest, pipes and cisterns, boats and streams, ages, mixture and alligation, partnership, mensurationAppear regularly, usually one or two at a time
LowData sufficiency, permutation and combination, probabilityZero to a few questions; do them last

Priority is based on previous-year weightage and can shift in any given paper. If you are short of time, our FAQ on topics to skip helps you decide.

A sensible order of study

  1. Calculation base first. Tables to 20, squares to 30, cubes to 20 and the percentage-fraction table (1/8 = 12.5%, 1/6 ≈ 16.67% and so on). Everything else is faster once these are automatic.
  2. Simplification and approximation. Daily, from the first week. They are the quickest marks in the section.
  3. Percentage, ratio and average. These three ideas sit inside almost every arithmetic and DI question.
  4. Profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed-distance-time. One chapter every two or three days.
  5. DI and quadratic equations. Once percentages are quick, DI becomes far easier.
  6. Medium and low-priority chapters. Fill these in as time allows.

Two worked examples

Time and work

A can finish a job in 12 days and B in 18 days. How long will they take together?

Take total work as the LCM of 12 and 18, which is 36 units. A does 3 units a day, B does 2. Together: 5 units a day. Time = 36 ÷ 5 = 7.2 days. The LCM method avoids fractions and is quicker than adding 1/12 and 1/18.

Speed, distance and time

A train 240 m long passes a pole in 12 seconds. What is its speed in km/h?

Speed = 240 ÷ 12 = 20 m/s. To convert m/s to km/h, multiply by 18/5: 20 × 18/5 = 72 km/h. Remember the conversion as a pair: 5 m/s = 18 km/h.

Why generated questions help in quant

Quant speed comes from repetition: seeing the same structure with different numbers until your hand moves before you finish reading. A fixed bank of 50 questions per chapter runs out quickly. Here, 21 of the 22 chapters generate new questions, each with an answer computed by the same code that wrote it, and a solution showing the steps.

Numeric answers are typed in topic practice, so you cannot guess from options. A rough-work pad sits beside each question if you want to work on screen.

If maths is your weak area, do not try to cover everything. Our FAQ for candidates weak in maths suggests which chapters give the most return for the least time.

A 60-minute daily quant session

  • 15 minutes: 20 simplification or approximation questions, timed.
  • 25 minutes: one arithmetic chapter, 15 to 20 questions, reading every solution.
  • 15 minutes: one DI set or a number series drill.
  • 5 minutes: write any new shortcut or formula in your notebook.

Twice a week, replace the session with a Prelims Quant sectional mock (35 questions, 20 minutes) and review it.

Questions people ask

Is quant in SBI Clerk hard?

The concepts are school level. The difficulty is speed: 35 questions in 20 minutes in Prelims. Daily practice of calculation-heavy chapters makes the biggest difference.

Which quant chapters have unlimited questions?

All chapters except data sufficiency generate new questions with computed answers. Data interpretation generates table, bar and line graph sets; pie chart sets are written.

Can I clear SBI Clerk if I am weak in maths?

Many candidates do, by being accurate in simplification, approximation and a few arithmetic chapters, and scoring well in English and Reasoning. There is no sectional cut-off prescribed in SBI Clerk Prelims.

How do I improve calculation speed?

Memorise squares, cubes and fraction-percent values, then do 20 to 40 simplification questions daily. Our FAQ on calculation speed has a detailed routine.
