The quick eligibility check

You can apply for SBI Junior Associate if all four statements are true for you. These are taken from the 2026 notification (CRPD/CR/2026-27/17). The rules have been identical in structure for the last few cycles, but the dates move by one year each time, so confirm in the notification of the year you apply.

  1. You are an Indian citizen.
  2. You were born between 02.04.1998 and 01.04.2006 (both days included), or you fall within a relaxation.
  3. You are a graduate in any discipline, or will have passed graduation on or before 31.12.2026.
  4. You can read, write, speak and understand the local language of the state you apply for.

Age limit and how to read it

The age limit is not below 20 and not above 28 years as on 01.04.2026. The notification converts that into a birth-date window, which is easier to use: born not earlier than 02.04.1998 and not later than 01.04.2006.

Two examples help:

  • Riya was born on 02.04.1998. She is just inside the window, so she can apply as a General candidate.
  • Arjun was born on 01.04.1998. He is one day outside the upper limit for General, but as an OBC (non-creamy layer) candidate he gets 3 extra years and is eligible.

For the 2025 cycle the same rule applied with dates shifted by a year: age as on 01.04.2025, born between 02.04.1997 and 01.04.2005.

Trained Apprentices of SBIGeneral/EWS 1, OBC 4, SC/ST 6, PwBD (Gen/EWS) 11, PwBD (OBC) 14, PwBD (SC/ST) 16 yearsConditions apply
Relaxations are not cumulative. You cannot add, say, the OBC relaxation and the widow relaxation together. You take only the one item that applies.

EWS candidates get reservation but no age relaxation in this table. OBC candidates in the creamy layer get neither the OBC relaxation nor OBC reservation and must apply as General.

The SBI apprentice relaxation applies only to trained apprentices whose engagement started on or after 01.01.2022, who finished one year of branch experience by the last registration date (31.08.2026 in the 2026 cycle), passed the trade test and hold the joint National Apprenticeship Certificate. Such apprentices also get 5 bonus marks (2.5% of 200) in Mains.

Educational qualification

You need graduation in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government. BA, BCom, BSc, BTech, BBA, BCA and others all count. No minimum percentage is prescribed.

  • Cut-off date: you must have passed on or before 31.12.2026 (31.12.2025 in the 2025 cycle).
  • Date of passing is the date on your mark sheet, certificate or provisional certificate. If your university only posts results online, get a certificate from the university saying the date the result was posted. That date is treated as your date of passing.
  • Integrated dual degree (IDD) holders must have passed the IDD itself by 31.12.2026.
  • Ex-Servicemen who are matriculates with the Indian Army Special Certificate of Education (or the Navy or Air Force equivalent) after at least 15 years of service are also eligible, if the certificate is dated on or before 31.12.2026.

Final-year and final-semester students

Yes, you can apply while in your final year or final semester. The condition is strict: if you are provisionally selected, you must produce proof that you passed graduation on or before 31.12.2026 (for the 2026 cycle).

What this means in practice:

  • If your final results are usually declared in June or July, you are comfortable.
  • If you have a backlog paper, or your university often delays results beyond December, you are taking a real risk. Clearing Mains and then losing the seat because a result came late is a painful way to fail.
  • Keep every mark sheet and the provisional certificate ready. Eligibility is checked only at the time of joining, not at the exam.
SBI admits everyone to the exam provisionally based on what they type in the form. Do not read "my admit card came" as "I am eligible". Check yourself against every condition before paying the fee.

Local language requirement

Candidates applying for a state must be proficient in the specified local language of that state, as listed in the vacancy table. Where more than one language is listed, you choose one while filling the form.

If your Class 10 or Class 12 mark sheet or certificate shows you studied that language, you are exempt from the language test. If not, you must pass the Local Language Proficiency Test after Mains and before joining. A few examples from the 2026 vacancy table:

State/UTLanguage(s)
MaharashtraMarathi
Tamil NaduTamil
KarnatakaKannada
TelanganaTelugu / Urdu
West BengalBengali / Nepali
Uttar PradeshHindi / Urdu
GujaratGujarati
AssamAssamese / Bengali / Bodo

Who cannot apply

  • Candidates already working in SBI's clerical cadre.
  • Former SBI employees who resigned while in the clerical cadre.
  • Candidates with adverse reports on character and antecedents or moral turpitude.

If you work in a government office, PSU or another nationalised bank, you can apply, but you must produce a proper discharge certificate from your employer when you join.
