SBI Clerk application, step by step

A rejected photo or a wrong category can end your attempt before the exam. Follow these steps, upload specs and fee rules from the 2026 notification to get the form right the first time.

Keep these ready before you open the form

  • A valid email ID and mobile number that will stay active until results. Call letters and updates come by email and SMS.
  • Your Class 10 certificate (for name and date of birth exactly as recorded) and graduation details.
  • Your category certificate details if you are claiming SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, PwBD or Ex-Servicemen status.
  • Scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration in the sizes given below.
  • A webcam or a phone, because the form also asks for a live photograph.
  • A debit card, credit card or internet banking for the fee, if you have to pay one.

Decide your state and your local language option before you start. You can apply for one state only.

The application steps

  1. Go to SBI's careers page (sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings) and open "Recruitment of Junior Associates" for the current year. Download and read the detailed advertisement.
  2. Click Apply Online and choose new registration. Enter your name, date of birth, contact details and category.
  3. Save. The system generates a provisional registration number and password. Note them down.
  4. Fill personal, educational and other details. You can reopen the saved form and edit it, but the 2026 notification says this facility is available three times only.
  5. Upload the photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration, and capture the live photograph with your webcam or phone (via the QR code option).
  6. Preview everything carefully. Once you submit the completed form, no change is allowed.
  7. Pay the fee online. On success, an e-receipt and application form are generated. Print them for your record. Do not post the printout to SBI.

If the payment does not go through, the notification says to register again and pay online. Applying early avoids last-day server load.

The declaration text given in the notification is: "I, (Name of the candidate), Date of Birth (date), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required. The signature, photograph and left thumb impression is of mine."

Print about eight copies of the same photo you upload. The notification advises this because you need it on call letters at Prelims and Mains, plus two extra copies each time, and later for joining.

Application fee by category

CategoryFee / intimation charges (2026)
General, OBC, EWS₹750
SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen (XS), DXSNil

The fee is non-refundable and cannot be held over for another exam. Online transaction charges, if any, are paid by you. The 2025 notification had the same ₹750 fee and the same exemptions.

Common application mistakes

  • Wrong category. No change of category is allowed after registration. An OBC candidate in the creamy layer must apply as General.
  • Name or date of birth not matching the Class 10 certificate. Small mismatches cause trouble at document verification.
  • Signature in capital letters, or a signature you cannot reproduce on exam day. A mismatch at the exam can disqualify you.
  • Photo in the signature slot or vice versa. The notification says such candidates will not be allowed to appear.
  • Blurry or dark images. Unclear photos, signatures, thumb impressions or declarations may lead to rejection.
  • Applying twice. Only the last completed application is kept and fees for others are forfeited. Appearing more than once leads to cancellation.
  • Using a friend's phone or email. You will miss call letter alerts.

After you apply

  • Pre-examination training: SBI arranges free online pre-exam training for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates who opt for it in the form.
  • Call letters: tentatively available about 10 days before each exam on SBI's site, along with the Acquaint Yourself booklet. No hard copies are posted.
  • Scribe: eligible PwBD candidates must indicate the need for a scribe in the form. Those eligible get 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of exam, whether or not they use a scribe.
  • Help: the 2026 notification gives the helpline 022-22820427 (11 AM to 5 PM on bank working days) and the query portal cgrs.ibps.in.
