When is the SBI Clerk Mains exam usually held?

Dates & resultsUpdated 2026-10-23
Short answer

Mains usually follows a few weeks to two months after Prelims. It was held on 10 and 12 April 2025 for the 2024-25 cycle and on 21 November 2025 for the 2025-26 cycle; for 2026 it is tentatively in November 2026.

The Main exam is usually held between three and eight weeks after the Prelims result. In some cycles the Mains date is announced even before the Prelims result.

For the 2026 special drive for SC/ST/OBC backlog vacancies, Mains is scheduled on 29 October 2026.

The gap is short

In the 2025-26 cycle there were only about two and a half weeks between the Prelims result and Mains. In 2024-25 it was about two weeks. That is not enough time to start Financial Awareness or Computer Aptitude from scratch.

A practical plan

  1. Before Prelims: spend about 20-30% of your daily study time on Financial Awareness and Computer Aptitude.
  2. Right after Prelims: do not wait for the result. Shift to a Mains timetable the next day.
  3. Last three weeks: full-length Mains mocks (2 hours 40 minutes) and revision of the last six months of banking and economy current affairs.

Call letter

The notification says Mains call letters can be downloaded from the Bank's website tentatively from 10 days before the exam. You must also bring your authenticated Prelims call letter, which was stamped at the Prelims venue, along with an original photo ID and two extra photos.
