JAIIB and CAIIB are banking qualifications run by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) for serving bank staff. IIBF says employees covered by the 12th Bipartite Settlement get one increment for passing JAIIB and two for CAIIB.
JAIIB (Junior Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) and CAIIB (Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers) are professional banking qualifications conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF). They cover banking operations, accounting, law, risk and other subjects.
Who can take them
As per IIBF's policy, only employees serving in banks are eligible to enrol for JAIIB and CAIIB. So you start once you join SBI, not before. CAIIB is taken after JAIIB.
Direct pay benefit
IIBF states that its flagship courses are recognised in the 12th Bipartite Settlement between the Indian Banks' Association and bank employees. Officers and clerical employees of banks that are signatories to the settlement are eligible for:
| Qualification | Increments (12th Bipartite Settlement) |
|---|---|
| JAIIB | 1 increment |
| CAIIB | 2 increments |
An increment moves your basic pay one step along the clerical scale (Rs 24050-1340/3-28070-...). Because DA is a percentage of basic pay, your DA rises too.
Career benefit
- Education sites report that holding JAIIB or CAIIB shortens the service needed before an SBI clerk can take the internal officer promotion process. SBI's own careers page says only that Junior Associates are eligible for officer promotion after 3 years of service, so confirm the details through internal circulars.
- The syllabus overlaps with the banking knowledge needed for promotion interviews and for the SBI PO exam.
- It makes daily work easier - you understand the reasons behind procedures.
Tips for new joiners
- Register for JAIIB in your first year while study habits from the clerk exam are fresh.
- The increment is applied as per bank rules after you pass and the certificate is issued, so keep your IIBF certificate and submit it to HR.
- Check IIBF's website for the current syllabus, exam windows and attempt rules.
