How to prepare for bank exams at home free

In short

To prepare for bank exams at home for free, you need four things: a fixed daily slot, a free source of practice questions with solutions, timed mocks every week, and a simple way to track progress. This page sets out a home routine for students and for people with jobs, using the free tools on this site.

Set up a place and a time

Home study fails most often for practical reasons, not lack of ability. Before you open a single question, fix two things.

  • A place. A table, a chair and a wall to face. Not the bed. If the house is busy, early morning or late evening may be the only quiet hours; use them.
  • A time. The same slot every day, written down. "Whenever I get time" turns into "never" within two weeks.

Tell the people at home what your slot is. Most families are supportive once they know a phone call or errand can wait for two hours.

Two home timetables

If you are a student or not working

TimeActivity
7:00-8:00Quant speed: simplification, approximation, series
8:00-8:30English: one editorial and one passage
10:00-11:30Reasoning: two puzzle sets and one short topic
16:00-17:00Quant: one arithmetic chapter or DI
20:00-20:45English grammar practice, then mistake book

If you work full time

TimeActivity
6:00-7:00Quant or Reasoning practice, one topic
Commute or lunchEnglish reading on your phone, or banking news
21:00-22:00The other subject, plus mistake book on alternate days
WeekendOne full mock and its review each day

The working professionals' plan goes further for people with jobs.

What to use, all free

  • Practice: about 5,950 questions with solutions across 76 topics. Thirty topics generate new questions so practice does not run out.
  • Notes: each syllabus topic has study notes you can read before practising.
  • Mocks: Prelims, Mains, sectional, 30-question mini and custom tests.
  • Plan: the 8-week plan for Prelims.
  • Reference: a 282-term banking glossary and 129 answered candidate questions in the FAQ.

Outside the site, a daily newspaper or reliable news site is the only other thing you truly need, for current affairs in Mains.

A weekly rhythm that keeps you honest

Daily practice builds skill. Weekly tests show whether the skill is actually there. Keep this rhythm:

  1. Monday to Thursday: topic practice, one new topic every two or three days.
  2. Friday: a sectional mock in your weakest subject.
  3. Saturday: a full Prelims mock (or a mini mock in the first month).
  4. Sunday: review the week's mocks, clear the mistake book, rest.
Take Saturday's mock at the same time each week, and at the time of your likely exam shift if you know it. Your concentration adjusts to the slot.

Staying on track without a teacher

At home there is nobody checking on you, so let numbers do it. Every Sunday, write three lines in a notebook: your mock score, your weakest topic on the dashboard, and how many days you studied that week. If the number of days drops below five two weeks in a row, the timetable is too ambitious. Shrink it rather than giving up on it.

Distraction is the other enemy. Put your phone in another room during practice and mocks. If you use your phone to study, turn off notifications for the session.

When motivation dips, which it will around week three or four, look at your accuracy on the dashboard over the past month. Slow, real progress is easier to see on a chart than in your head.

Questions people ask

Can I prepare for bank exams at home without coaching?

Yes. With a fixed daily slot, free practice questions with solutions, weekly mocks and honest review, home preparation works for many candidates.

How many hours should I study at home?

Three to four focused hours a day is a common target for students; one and a half to two hours on weekdays works for many people with jobs. Regularity matters more than length.

Do I need books if I use this site?

Not necessarily. The site covers practice, notes and mocks for SBI Clerk. Some candidates like a book for concepts; it is a matter of preference, not a requirement.

What if I miss a few days?

Restart from the next day at the normal slot without trying to make up all the lost hours. Doubling the load to catch up usually leads to skipping more days.

Can I study only on my phone?

You can practise on a phone, but take full mocks on a laptop or desktop when possible, since the real exam is on a computer.
