Spend as long on analysis as on the mock. Sort every question into right, wrong, skipped-but-doable and too hard, find the two topics and one timing mistake that cost the most, and redo all wrong questions within 48 hours.
A mock without analysis is just a score. The score tells you where you are; the analysis tells you what to fix. Plan 60-90 minutes of analysis for every full Prelims mock.
Step 1: sort every question into four groups
| Group | What it means | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Right and fast | Your strength | Nothing; keep it warm |
| Wrong | Concept gap, silly mistake, or bad guess | Find which, redo it |
| Skipped but doable | Lost to time or nerves | Solve it now without a timer |
| Too hard | Above your current level | Note the topic, ignore for now |
Step 2: label each wrong answer
- Concept: you did not know the method. Study the topic again.
- Calculation: right method, wrong arithmetic. Add drills.
- Reading: misread the question or a unit. Slow down on reading.
- Guess: you were not sure. Reconsider your guessing rule.
Step 3: check time per section
Look for questions where you spent over 90 seconds. One stuck puzzle can cost five easy questions. Write down where the time went.
Step 4: write a three-line summary
- Topic that cost the most marks
- Second topic
- One habit to change in the next mock (for example "leave puzzle after 2 minutes")
Step 5: act before the next mock
Practise those two topics for one or two days, and redo every wrong question within 48 hours. Then take the next mock.
A sample summary
"Mock 7: lost about 5 marks on one DI set (misread units, values were in thousands) and 3 marks in syllogism (possibility cases). Spent 7 minutes on a floor puzzle I did not finish. Next mock: read units first, leave any puzzle after 2 minutes without progress." A note like this takes two minutes and makes the next mock better.
