What is a good score in an SBI Clerk Prelims mock test?

Mocks & practiceUpdated 2026-10-23
Short answer

A good mock score is one clearly above the past Prelims cut-off for your state and category, achieved consistently across several mocks. Since cut-offs vary by state, year and paper, compare your average, not your best.

"Good" is relative to your state and category, not a single number. SBI shortlists about 10 times the vacancies for Mains, by category, from the Prelims merit list. A state with many applicants per seat needs a higher score than a state with fewer.

How to set your own target

  1. Find the previous year's Prelims cut-off for your state and category from a reliable source. Treat it as approximate.
  2. Add a margin of about 5-10 marks, because mock papers and real papers differ in difficulty.
  3. Aim to reach that score in your average of five mocks, not just once.

Mock difficulty

Different mock series are pitched at different levels. Some are harder than the real exam, some easier. Compare your score with other people taking the same mock (percentile) more than with the official cut-off.

Mains is what decides selection

Prelims marks are not added to the final merit; only the Mains aggregate counts. So a Prelims mock score is good when it is safely above the shortlisting line. Beyond that, extra Prelims marks do not help.

A balanced section split

Because SBI Clerk Prelims has no prescribed sectional cut-off, a strong section can make up for a weaker one. Still, a very low score in one section usually means you are leaving easy marks. A useful check is whether each section's accuracy is above 80% and whether no section is far behind the other two.

This page does not quote cut-off figures because they change every year and differ by state and category. Always check figures for your own state, and confirm the current rules in the SBI notification.
