Take one diagnostic mock on day one, then start regular full mocks once you have covered the high-weight topics in all three sections, usually after 4-5 weeks. Use sectional tests before that.
Start early with one, then wait until you have a base. Taking daily full mocks before you know the main methods mostly measures what you have not studied yet.
The three-step start
- Day 1: one diagnostic mock. Take it without preparation. Note your score by section, but do not worry about it. It shows your starting point and the gap you need to close.
- Weeks 1-4: sectional tests only. After you finish a group of topics in a section, take a 20-minute sectional test on that section.
- From week 5: regular full mocks. Begin at 2 a week, then increase as described in your plan.
Ready-for-mocks checklist
| Section | You should have covered |
|---|---|
| Quant | Simplification, approximation, number series, quadratic, main arithmetic, basic DI |
| Reasoning | Inequality, syllogism, linear and circular seating, one type of floor or box puzzle |
| English | Error detection, fillers, RC method, para jumbles |
If the exam is close
If you have less than six weeks, start full mocks in week 2 or 3. You will learn some topics from mock solutions instead of from scratch, which is not ideal but is the right trade-off when time is short.
What to do with your first scores
Early mock scores are often low, and that is normal. Do not compare them with toppers' scores you see online. Record each section's score as a baseline, and judge progress by your own average every two weeks. The first few mocks are mainly for learning your timing and attempt order.
Mini mocks as a bridge
A short mixed test of 30 questions in about 20 minutes is a good bridge between sectional tests and full mocks. It practises switching between subjects without taking a full hour.
